Preserve to learn!

The preservation of the Alte Synagoge Heppenheim as a cultural monument and the restoration of the prayer room is our joint mission.

After restoration, however, the building should not only be a ‘monument’, but also a lively place of encounter, remembrance and education. Lectures, exhibitions, readings, conferences and other cultural events should be possible here. The association is convinced that the revitalisation of Heppenheim's unique cultural monument will not only do justice to its historical heritage, but will also make an important contribution to our society and the future of our town.

This building, designated as an individual cultural monument, stands as a valuable testament to over 600 years of Jewish history in Heppenheim. Constructed in 1807 by the Jewish community, it was purpose-built as a synagogue, complete with a prayer hall, school, and teacher's residence...

revealing and bringing to light

Synagogue, commercial building, observatory, music school... The Alte Synagoge has worn many faces over the years, and its walls tell the stories of the many years that left their mark here.

A space where lectures, exhibitions, readings, conferences, and other cultural events can come to life. Researching, documenting, preserving, and sharing history are at the heart of our efforts
